Life Happens — and Your Dress Can Adapt

Your wedding dress should celebrate you — not the number on a label.

At Rachel’s Custom Sewing, we work with many brides whose bodies are changing in the months before their wedding. Whether you’re expecting, planning a family, postpartum, or in the middle of a major weight change, we build your fitting schedule around your timeline.

How We Plan Fittings for Pregnancy or Weight Changes

When you complete your Booked Wedding Dress (BWD) form, we automatically set your first fitting about three months before your wedding.

That first appointment is all about assessment and planning:

  1. We take accurate measurements and note areas likely to change.

  2. Together, we map out your next few fittings — often weekly or close together in the final month.

  3. We discuss any fabric sourcing or lace requirements early, so everything’s ready when sewing begins.

You’ll leave knowing exactly what to expect and when.

Your Fitting Timeline — Step by Step

1. Initial Fitting (≈ 3 months before the wedding)

We assess the dress, discuss your goals (bump growth or size change), and take baseline measurements.

We’ll book your follow-up fittings in advance so your time is guaranteed during our busy season.

2. Interim Fittings (≈ 4–6 weeks before the wedding)

We track your body’s changes and start sculpting the gown to your shape.

Any internal adjustments (waistline lift, bodice structure, corsetry changes) are planned here.

3. Final Fittings (often weekly, leading up to the wedding)

These are “bam-bam” appointments — close together, so your gown stays current with your body.

Pick-up happens early in your wedding week, leaving just enough time for tiny tweaks, but not long enough for new size changes to appear.

This pacing ensures your gown looks and feels perfect right when it matters most.

Our Approach: Compassion + Precision

  • No judgment, no stress: Bodies change — that’s normal. We simply adapt the dress around you.

  • Practical scheduling: We reserve your fitting slots in advance so you’re never squeezed in or rushed.

  • Early prep work: While we wait for your final size, we complete background tasks — sourcing matching lace, preparing seams, or cutting linings — so work can begin the moment your shape stabilises.

  • Confidence on the day: Every stitch, seam, and bustle is tested so you can move, dance, and breathe comfortably.

A Note for Expecting Brides

If you’re already pregnant or think you might be by your wedding date:

  1. Let us know early via your BWD form or consultation — we’ll plan extra fitting slots.

  2. Bring or send your estimated due date and wedding date so we can map your safest window.

  3. We’ll focus on comfort and flexibility (for example, gussets, elastic panels, or bodice redesigns that allow expansion without altering the gown’s look).

Many brides tell us this planning stage is what helps them actually enjoy their fittings instead of worrying about them.
