Careers at Rachel's Custom Sewing

Come and sew with us

We're a bridal alterations studio in Toowoomba, and we're always keen to hear from talented people who love doing things properly.

Replace with an RCS behind-the-scenes photo

We don't always have a role advertised, but we're always paying attention. The right person is worth making room for, so if you care about your craft and want to work somewhere that cares about it too, we'd love to hear from you.

Rachel's Custom Sewing is a busy studio built around one idea: every dress that comes through our doors gets the finish it deserves. We alter, rebuild, and reimagine wedding gowns, and we do the fiddly, satisfying, technical work that makes a dress fit like it was made for the person wearing it. It's real hands-on sewing, and the standard is high.

Who we love to hear from

We take people on as the work grows, so there's no single job description. These are the kinds of people who tend to fit well here:

Sewists & seamstresses

Machinists and hand-finishers who know their way around delicate fabrics, beading, and a proper hem, and who take pride in the details no one else would notice.

Bridal alterations specialists

Experienced fitters who are comfortable with a pinned bodice, a nervous bride, and a tight timeline, all in the same afternoon.

Studio & client support

Organised, warm people who keep the studio running: bookings, communication, and looking after clients from first fitting to pickup.

Learners with real potential

Newer sewists who don't have all the experience yet but have the eye, the patience, and the genuine want to learn how it's done well.

What it's like here

It's a small team and a hands-on studio, so no two days look quite the same. One morning is a fitting, the next is a full bodice rebuild, and somewhere in there is the quiet, focused sewing that we all secretly love most.

We're honest about the work. Some of it is slow and precise, some of it is under pressure with a wedding on Saturday, and all of it matters to the person on the other end. If that sounds like your kind of pressure, you'll fit right in.

What matters to us

  • Doing it properly. We'd rather take the extra twenty minutes and get a clean, even finish than rush something out the door.
  • Caring about the client. Every dress belongs to someone who has waited a long time for their day. We treat it that way.
  • Always learning. There's always a better technique, a neater method, a trickier fabric. We stay curious.
  • Looking after each other. Small team, high standards, good humour. We help each other out.

Introduce yourself

Tell us a bit about you, your sewing experience, and what you love making. If you have photos of your work, even better, we'd love to see them.
